About eMagCreator 
What is eMagCreator?
eMagCreator is a program which converts PDF files into user friendly electronic books.
Are any special programs or plugins needed to run eMagCreator?
No. Only Internet Explorer 6+ or similar is needed to view the finalized eMag.
How is an eMag published and distributed?
An eMag can be published on the Internet, or distributed on CDs, DVDs or any other media.
How does it work?
eMagCreator reads and converts any PDF file into a "flash movie" that looks and feels like a real book.
Which MS operating systems can eMagCreator be run on?
eMagCreator runs perfectly on either Windows XP (all editions) and Windows Vista.
Installation
Trial version has been used, full application has been bought and serialnumber has been entered. First run of the full application worked fine, but the second run is in trial mode
Please uninstall the trial version completely, before installing the full application and entering the serialnumber.
The downloaded program application cannot be executed
Please change the file extension to .exe (eMagCreator_XXXXXX.exe) and initiate installation again.
The eMagCreator application cannot be installed
Only the administrator of the PC where eMagCreator is to be installed, has the rights to do so. Please make sure the administrator is the person who's logged in on the PC before installation. Also make sure that any installed, and running, antivirus-software is set to allow eMagCreator run operate on the system.
Can eMagCreator be installed and run on a MAC?
Unfortunately not at the moment. However, PC emulated environments can be run on MACs, which thereafter allow eMagCreator to run accordingly.
An installed antivirus program blocks eMagCreator (setup- or exe-file) to run properly. What to do?
Please allow the antivirus program to run the eMagCreator file in question. This is typically done in the "options" menu in the antivirus program. The files have been included into the "trusted zone" in the latest releases by companies such as McAfee, Antivir, Norton and Trend Micro.
An error message about a corrupted XML file appears. What does it mean?
XML files are often corrupted when keywords containing special characters, such as !"#¤%&/()=æøå@£$€{[]}| are entered. Please remove these an re-generate the eMag. The only characters that are allowed are A-Z and 0-9.
The message "Licensing server cannot be accessed" is visible in lower left corner. What does it mean?
It means that the installed firewall/antivirus program is blocking eMagCreators access to the Internet. It needs to be allowed into the trusted zones of the installed firewall/antivirus programs.
Will eMagCreator automatically notify the user, when a new release is available?
Yes, eMagCreator will notify the user of this, when the program is started. Normally, we'll also notify our customers by e-mail.
Does the installation file allow any parameters to be added, for e.g. silent installation for mass users (such as automatically insertion of the serial)?
Yes. Our installation setup is "wrapped" by Inno Setup (http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php). Please consult their website for a possible solution and/or contact support@emagcreator.com.
Registration
How to register the eMagCreator program
In the full program (not the trial version) use the dropdown menu in "Help" and choose "Register".
Can the eMagCreator logo be removed from eMags?
Only in the full version of the program - not in the trial version. Go to Help - About eMagCreator - unmark the field "Show eMagCreator logo in eMags”. To remove the logo from already created eMags, simply re-open them (or the project files they're based on) and re-create them.
When trying to register, the program goes online to eMagCreator Shop. What is wrong?
The trial version of eMagCreator cannot be registered. Correct solution is to log on to http://www.emagcreator.com/login.php (using the serial), and download the full version from the top of the screen.
Preparing the PDF
Can other formats than PDF be imported into eMagCreator?
Unfortunately not. At this moment the application only supports PDF files.
eMagCreator won't import the chosen PDF file
- Please make sure that no other programs have the same PDF file opened.
- Please make sure that the PDF file has a web friendly name. Try to avoid local language characters, long filenames and special characters.
- Please make sure that the chosen PDF file contains pages of almost the same size. eMagCreator will adjust minor differences, but alternatively the format of the eMag will be impacted negatively.
- Please make sure that the chosen PDF file preferably contains single pages. Double pages will be treated as single pages in the viewer and the reading quality will be severely decreased.
- The PDF file might be password-protected. Please save the PDF file without any password-protection before importing it into eMagCreator.
What about the quality
The quality of the chosen PDF file can be decided during the creation of the eMag. The quality of the original PDF file has a lot to say, and for best visual result, please choose a PDF file with a resolution higher than 150dpi. Also, The PDF file might have some postscript incompatibilities with eMagCreator, therefore please try the following: Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat (preferably the latest version), choose the menu Advanced -> Print Production -> PDF Optimizer. From the “Make compatible with” menu, select “Acrobat 5 and later” (higher or lower choices might work better, depending on the PDF file). Press OK, exit Adobe Acrobat, and import the PDF file into eMagCreator again.
Are there any limitations to the size of the chosen PDF?
No. eMagCreator can handle any sizes of PDF files.
eMagCreator won't import the chosen PDF file, and stalls on "Analyzing PDF" or "Extracting PDF text"

Help
Can the eMags be set up to flip the pages automatically, to use in e.g. a continuous presentation?
Unfortunately not, but a solution could be to video-grab the images instead.
How does the "Help" function work?
If the "Help" window is kept open (while navigating through the program), the topic in the window will automatically change the content, according to the actual setting. Use the "Settings" menu to turn the feature off or freeze one specific page, while browsing through the program.
How to search for words or phrases in a eMag
Simply click the "Search" button within the eMag. eMagCreator categorizes all text from the chosen PDF file, enabling the search for any word or phrase in the eMag (only possible if the original PDF file has not been scanned or converted into an image).
How many pages are loaded at a time when viewing an eMag?
This depends of the connection speed of the PC. If it's a slow connection only 2-3 pages are loaded. If it's a fast connection 8-10 pages are loaded.
Which file format is the finalized eMag in? Does it remain a PDF file or is it converted into a Flash file or similar?
The eMagCreator creates a file library consistent of HTML, Flash, XML, etc.
Is there any service/support included in the Licenses?
Yes. Please address all communication to support@emagcreator.com.

Can the flip-page area be altered e.g. to accommodate more space for links, images or videos?
Unfortunately not.
Which formats are the "Skin"/"Source" files in?
The files are in the Flash CS3 format, and can easily be edited/created in any Flash programming tool.
Can an eMag be viewed/page-flipped from left to right (for arabic readers)?
Unfortunately not, but an eMag can be set up to start from the opposite direction, and readers can then flip the pages in the wanted direction.
Which language characters does eMagCreator support?
Only Latin characters, which means no Cyrillic, Russian, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, etc. characters are supported (No UNICODE).
Can extra pages be added to a finalized eMag?
No, but the pages can be merged into the original PDF file and imported into eMagCreator again.
A message appears about "TxtExtract.exe" trying to modify the system. What does it mean?
It means that the installed firewall/antivirus program is blocking a program within eMagCreator (from the "Bin\TFP" folder) to run properly. It needs to be allowed into the trusted zones of the installed firewall/antivirus programs.
Can eMags be copy-protected?
No, but the simplest way to avoid copying is to remove the icon button "open as PDF" (and not uploading the PDF file it refers to). If the eMag has been created as an offline publication (.exe file) there are various ways of password-protect it (please do an internet search for such possibilities, as the functionality is not one provided by eMagCreator).
Can a SWF animation be embedded directly on a page, to play automatically when the page is flipped?
This is not currently supported. SWF files can only play in "media windows", which requires the reader to click a link for them to open. We are working on a solution for this functionality, but nothing has been scheduled for a release yet.
Can changes be made to a finalized, uploaded and activated eMag?
Yes, as long as the changes are made in eMagCreator, the book-ID will not change, and no re-activation is required. Only changes in the PDF file requires re-activation.
Does eMagCreator support OCR (Optical Character Recognition)?
Unfortunately not, but a possible solution is to run the OCR process in Adobe Acrobat, save the "new" PDF file, and import it into eMagCreator again.
Does eMagCreator support, or have some sort of functionality that allows for, dynamic updating of pages?
This is not directly supported, but something similar can be created using the "Linked Image" tool from the Link Importer (found on the Pages/Links tab in eMagCreator). Basically, fields that load images from static links can be added. Using this tool, it is possible to refer to a dynamic link, that serves a .jpeg image based on a server setting, and a link to a forwarding page, that acts on the same setting. In this way the link and the image content could be dynamically changed and integrated into a server application.
General settings
Can a single .exe file be created to e-mail to customers?
Yes, use the Tool Box and choose "Export Windows Projector" under "General settings".
Skin/Appearance
Can the buttons in the finalized eMag be changed?
Yes. All buttons can be customized by using the Tool Box.
How is the zoom function increased?
In the Tool Box, go to "Skin/Appearance" - "General appearance" and unmark the "Automatic screen match" field. Then choose to increase either the "Zoomed height" or "Zoomed width" number to the desired size.
The graphics in the finalized eMag suffer when using background- and font colours. What can be done?
eMagCreator uses the most common image format on the Internet, namely JPG. Unfortunately this format tends to create some "distortion" when compressing very colourful contrasts. Best possible solution is to increase the JPG quality, which is done by entering the Tool Box - "Skin/Appearance" - "General Appearance" - "Page quality settings". Please remember that by increasing the JPG quality, the size of the finalized eMag is increased as well.
Why won't eMagCreator show the chosen (background) image (or image is yellow)?
The formats that can be used are JPG, PNG, SWF and BMP, and images have to be in RGB colour, not CMYK.
Can the sound effects, when flipping pages, be changed?
Yes, from the "Skins/Appearance" - "Skin/Index/Search" menus in the Tool Box you can change the effect ("Use page-flip sounds").
Is it possible to zoom in more than once, to view small details or textboxes in an eMag?
No, it's only possible to zoom in once, but the size of the zoomed page can be adjusted in the Tool Box.
Can the eMagCreator logo be removed from uploaded and activated eMags?
Yes. Open the uploaded eMags/projects in eMagCreator, remove the logo, create the eMag again, all upload all files and folders. On the Statistics page, the eMag will now appear as "Version #2".
Can the background image have sections which include URL links?
Yes, if the background has been created using Flash it can contain as sorts of interaction that Flash supports. Set the background mode to "Align". Please note, that edited backgrounds might conflict with the eMag functionality, and that we do not support errors, that might occur in this matter.
Pages/Links
In the finalized eMag there's a cover page (page 1) and a table of contents (page 2). Is it possible to change this setup and have the eMag consider page 3 as page 1?
No. The pagination is generated automatically and therefore cannot be changed in eMagCreator. Only "solution" is to change the page setup in the original PDF file, before it's imported into eMagCreator.
Menus
Can new buttons be added?
Yes. New buttons can be created by using the Tool Box. Choose "Menus" - "Text Menu" and click on the "+" button.
Can the buttons be changed / new buttons created (text, functionalities, design)?
Yes. Use the Tool Box, choose Menus - Text menu, and change/add buttons (use the + button to add).
Text/Help
Can the help messages on the first page of the eMag be disabled?
Yes. In the Tool Box choose the "Text/Help" tab and unmark the context help fields "Page flip" and "Zoom".
Projects
A previously created eMag cannot be re-opened/edited. Why?
It is of extreme importance that the original project file is NOT erased, or else eMagCreator cannot open an existing eMag.
The project file is lost. What can be done?
Nothing. eMagCreator cannot recover the project from a generated eMag.
Templates
What are templates used for? And how are they saved/used?
If the same settings, such as size, quality, background image, etc. are used for all eMags, these settings can be saved and loaded each time a new project is begun. When settings have been set, go to "File" -> "Save as Template". Loading is done by choosing either a new or an existing project, and selecting "Use Template (from existing settings)".
Link Module
Can eMagCreator import bookmarks from the original PDF file?
Yes. All bookmarks are "transferred" to eMagCreator during import.
It is possible to manually create a link, from an URL in the text, to a different URL? I.e. if the text reads www.eMagcreator.dk and the wish is to actually link it to www.emagcreator.com
Yes. Via the Tool Box in the menu "Pages/Links", mark the link and fill in the desired URL. For more info, see http://www.emagcreator.com/books/demo/eMagCreator2/flash.html#/17/.
Inserted e-mail links aren't working properly. What's wrong?
Please remember to include the "mailto:" prefix. E.g. the link should be "mailto:support@emagcreator.com" and not "support@emagcreator.com".

Please remember to include the "http://" prefix. E.g. the link should be "http://www.emagcreator.com" and not "www.emagcreator.com".
Which formats of videos can be imported into eMagCreator?
eMagCreator can convert almost every format incl. SWF, MPEG, AVI, M4P, etc. The files will be converted into FLV format, which of course can be imported aswell.
How are links from the original PDF file imported into eMagCreator?
On the "Pages/Links" tab, click on the link icon next to a page - under the menu "Tools" the option to "Import Links" can be found. Please note that ONLY EXTERNAL links can be handled by the Link Importer (i.e. links containing the prefixes "http://" and "mailto:").
Is it possible to create a link to at certain page within an eMag?
Yes. Simply add the postfix "/#/" and the pagenumber you want to link to (e.g. "/#/17" if you want to link to page 17). The complete link would then be something like http://www.emagcreator.com/books/dk/ecreation/#/17
E-mail links open up a blank webpage when clicking on. What is wrong?
When importing the links, remember to set the target to "_self".
Upload
Can an eMag be hosted BY a customer?
Yes. Make a zip-file containing all the eMag files, e-mail it, unzip it and upload directly (using a FTP client).
Can an eMag be hosted FOR a customer?
Yes. Make an online folder (e.g. name it after the company) and upload all the eMag files to that folder (using a FTP client).
Having a partner license used to create eMags for customers, can customers create their own eMags - and activate them?
Please do the following: Ask the customer to download the trial version from www.emagcreator.com, use it to create an eMag, save the project and e-mail ALL files (incl. PDFs, HTML files, images, etc.), load and generate the eMag, activate the eMag.
An error message about the need to upgrade the Flash Player appears. Version 8 or 9 is already installed. What is wrong?
This issue is often mistaken, and the solution thought as being to un- and re-installing the Flash Player. In fact this issue occurs when all the project files haven't been uploaded (correctly). Please try and upload them again, and maybe try to use another FTP client doing so.
Navigating/Viewing
The eMag takes some time to load up, and approximately 3 seconds per page to render a zoom page. Why is that?
Three factors can influence this: The connection speed of the PC, where the eMag is viewed, the connection speed available to the server the eMag is hosted on and the preset compression settings in the application. Suggestion is to start by checking the quality settings in the "Skin/Appearance" - "General Appearance" - "Page quality settings"- None of these (and especially not zoom) should normally go above 80 for online eMags.
The error message "A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player X to run slowly" appears. What does it mean?
We have seen this error once - in an eMag containing more than 500+ links. Unfortunately, for the time being, there's no solution for this issue.
How to navigate through an eMag
Navigation is made easy; simply flip the pages from the top or the lower corner, use the slider or use the arrowbuttons (all depending on the chosen skin/appearance).
Why does the eMag take a lot of time to open - or do not open at all?
This is caused by the lack of processing power of the PC. The reader loads a XML-file, which is then parsed into a readable format. Only solution is to upgrade the PC.
Is it possible to view an eMag within the eMagCreator, without having to load it again?
No. The "view function" cannot be used while the program is running.
Is there any way to make the demo of an eMag last longer than 60 seconds (when run from the trial version)?
Unfortunately not, but the limitation only appears in the trial version of eMagCreator, not in the full version.
Is it possible to change the path of the function "Open as PDF", if the wish is for the reader to download a more compact version of the PDF?
When all files and folders from the finalized eMag have been uploaded, the PDF file therein can be replaced by the more compact version, but it ONLY works if the "new" file has the exact same filename as the "old" one.
Statistics page
Is it possible to incorporate a company logo in the Statistics Page?
No, unfortunately we cannot support that function.
How is an eMag activated?
Only partners have to activate their eMags as only a limited amount can be made. Go to http://www.emagcreator.com/login.php - log in using the serial number - find the eMag on the list - click edit - select "Activate" checkbox - click "Save book settings".
What are the statistics used for?
It shows how many hits a single eMag, or pages therein, gets, how long time readers stay on which pages, which links have been activated, etc. The Statistics do not show who has seen the eMag(s).
How can the eMag show up on the Statistics page when it's not even hosted by eMagCreator?
Everytime an eMag is created, as script is created as well. This script "tells" us where the eMag is located, even if it's moved around from server to server. This feature is similar to Google Analytics.
The 2 columns "zoom" and "avg. zoomtime" displays no data, even though several pages have been zoomed. Why?
These 2 columns were introduced with the release of version 2.4.1. If the installed version, or the version that's been used to create the eMags, is a version prior to 2.4.1. these columns will not display data.
